Los Angeles, CA – January 3, 2025 – The air at Walt Disney Concert Hall crackled with anticipation as the audience awaited the arrival of renowned violinist Lisa Batiashvili. And when she stepped onto the stage, a hush fell over the crowd. The evening, conducted by the dynamic Robin Ticciati, promised a special treat: a performance of Beethoven’s Violin Concerto, a masterpiece that demands both technical brilliance and profound emotional depth.

The concert began with a burst of energy, courtesy of Dvořák’s spirited Prague Waltzes. Ticciati, with his characteristic flair, led the Los Angeles Philharmonic through a vibrant and joyful rendition, perfectly setting the stage for the evening’s centerpiece.

Then came the Beethoven. From the opening bars, it was clear that this was a performance of rare intensity. Batiashvili, renowned for her poetic phrasing and impeccable technique, seemed to effortlessly navigate the concerto’s demanding passages. Her tone, as critic James Leonard once observed, was “pure but touched with sweetness,” and her intonation was flawless.

The first movement, Allegro ma non troppo, unfolded with breathtaking clarity and precision. Batiashvili’s dialogue with the orchestra was exquisite, each phrase perfectly balanced and nuanced. The Larghetto, a movement of aching beauty, was simply mesmerizing. Batiashvili’s playing was imbued with a deep sense of introspection, her tone melting into the hushed atmosphere of the hall.

The final movement, a Rondo Allegro, was a whirlwind of virtuosity. Batiashvili’s fingers danced across the strings with astonishing speed and agility, while maintaining a remarkable sense of control and musicality. The audience was spellbound, erupting in thunderous applause at the conclusion.

However, the audience was not ready to let go. Calls for an encore rang out, growing louder and more insistent. Finally, with a warm smile, Batiashvili returned to the stage and, to the delight of the crowd, offered a captivating rendition of a traditional Georgian folk melody. The hall was filled with a sense of shared joy and appreciation.

Following the concert, there was an extensive interview with Batiashvili and Ticciati, where they shared their insights on the performance and their deep connection to the music.

The evening concluded with a standing ovation for Batiashvili, Ticciati, and the entire orchestra. This was a performance that will undoubtedly be remembered for years to come, a testament to the power of great music and the extraordinary talents of these exceptional artists.
